秋季气温适宜，饲料充足，营养丰富，是饲养长毛兔的好季节，此期饲养管理工作的是抓好秋繁和换毛期的管理。此期由于长毛兔刚度过炎夏，种兔体质较瘦弱，因此，入秋前应当加强饲养管理，注意人工补充光照，实行复配法，以提高配种受胎率，保证秋季繁殖1～2胎。

秋季又是成年兔换毛期，换毛期的兔体质较弱，应适当增喂蛋白质含量较高的精饲料，切忌饲喂露水草，以防引起肠炎、腹泻等疾病。要从加强饲养管理工作入手，要加强对常见病的防治。在秋季，应当对兔群进行1次整顿，对产毛性能好、繁殖力强、后代整齐的兔可继续留作种用；对老、弱、病、残兔应当及早进行淘汰，并选留的后备兔来补充种兔群。要及早备足越冬的饲草饲料，以确保冬季有足够的饲料。
